Woof Wear Medical Boot - Blue

Season:Core

Brand:Woof Wear

Code:3100000011280

The Woof Wear Medical Boot is a unique, close fitting hoof boot that has been designed to keep wounds, poultices and dressings clean, reducing the amount of bandage needed.

This durable design is suitable for stable and turnout allowing your horse to enjoy some freedom even when they have an injury.

Manufactured with a grooved sole and a Kelvar® interior they offer extra grip and durability. The asymmetric zip gives the boot a closer fit and prevents the zipper from opening.

Suitable for use with or without a shoe (Woof Wear recommend you go up one size if your horse has shoes on).

Woof Wear expect the boot to last between 2-3 weeks under normal circumstances but many customers find they last much longer. The boot is not indestructible and so is not guaranteed against breakage, due to the horse standing on the boot.

It is recommended that exuberant horses or those who have been on box rest for a long period of time may wish to place an overreach boot on top of the Woof Wear medical boot to prevent racing stops.

Sizing Information

How to get the best out of your Woof Wear Medical Hoof Boot:

Overreaching

Do not use the Medical Hoof Boot (MHB) in place of an overreach boot to prevent shoe loss. The MHB is not designed for this application and will not protect against overreaching.

Woof Wear recommend always using a generous sized overreach boot over the top of MHB to protect it should your horse stand on himself or overreach. They recommend this on both front and hind hooves.

Measure, Measure, Measure…

The MHB is designed to be a snug fit so it doesn’t fall off. If you do not measure accurately or buy a size too big it can result in damage to the MHB due to the boot being trodden on by the other foot.

Measuring Rules:

i) Measure width carefully before bandaging, with or without shoe

ii) Choose size per guide (don’t go to next size up)

iii) No need to add extra for dressings

These are brilliant. Mine have all lasted well beyond their expected lifespan. For my very active horse, I wrap a layer of vetwrap around the outside of the boot and then wrap all round and underneath with gafer tape. The tape just reinforces the boot a bit and the vetwrap stops it sticking to the neoprene and damaging it. Not ideal if you need a lot of airflow but otherwise I find it really useful.

I think this boot is good to use in order to help keep a poultice in place if you have a horse like mine who takes pride in removing them! However, the boot does get quite hot inside and as a result I found rubbed my horse quite badly which is the only downside I found to the boot. Sizing wise, they fit nicely and have a good solid sole on which is great for horses that box walk as I found it didn’t wear down. Overall I am very impressed at the fact my horse was able to keep a poultice on once I started using this boot, however I think people should be aware of the potential for rubs from this boot. 3 stars overall.

Excellent product, true to size though I bought a snug fit purposely for use in turnout where it stayed in place perfectly without slipping. Put on a horse that had just had shoes removed and it allowed it to move freely over difficult surfaces during t/out. No rubbing too.

I’m so pleased with these boots. I wanted something quick and easy to put on my pony for to and from the field. Highly recommend these boots, but I certainly think I’d go up a size if I were to need to put on over a poultice as they aren’t very generous.

My out-wintered Arab gelding got a penetration and due to the mud this winter had to be stabled for quite some time until he could be re-shod. The Woof Wear Medical Boot was amazing; I used a size 5 which was perfect over a poultice & cohesive bandage. The boot rotated slightly over time but still gave great protection, and stayed on for 48 hours without rubbing. I was also able to lunge in the manège (a little excitable) and the boot gave absolute security. If the ground had been dry I’d have turned him out without concern. What a fantastic product which I would thoroughly recommend. Amazingly quick delivery from Redpost too.

We had a 2 year old with a bad abscess. He was very lame and so brought him in from the field. It began to drain and so decided to continue poulticing out in the field. We put this boot on and he was happy to walk out across stoney terrain and was pleased to be back out in the field. We made sure it was a snug fit so that it stayed on but because of the design it did not feel restrictive. Very pleased and service from Redpost great!

  • Are these boots waterproof/mud-proof?
Question asked by Jane on 20/10/2020 22:14:36
Hi Jane, These boots are made from a tough neoprene with a reinforced base. They will keep some moisture/mud out, but due to the nature of the neoprene, they are not 100% waterproof. Hope this helps.
  • My pony has bruised front feet and the blacksmith has left his toes a little long, so when I measure his feet across they are 10cm but length is 13cm - what size would be best?
Question asked by Carole on 25/01/2020 09:08:09
Hi Carole, Thank you for your enquiry. It is hard for us to guarantee which size will be the best fit, but Woof Wear does advise to go for a snug fit, so it may be worth considering the Size 2. If you would like any additional measurements, please email us at sales@redpostequestrian.co.uk and we can look into this for you.
If you did purchase the Size 2, and found you needed to go up or down a size, we do accept exchanges and returns. I hope this helps.
